Final Product Evaluation Questions 6 and 7

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
During the course of this project we have used many software's to make our films and our clips. We have learnt that the software we used was challenging but after we used it, we got the hang of it and was then easy. The reason why we thought that the software was challenging is because we had never used the software or the macs before. Some of the software that we used, blogger and premier pro, proved challenging at first, but then after a lot of practice they soon became easy. Another component that we used was the camera. We thought that this was easy to use because we had all used a camera before. However, we suffered some issues with the camera mainly due to the high amount of functions the camera had compared to the cameras we have all used before this course.


7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Yes, i think that we have all learnt something new from our preliminary task to our actual film. One thing we have learnt is that we now know how to use the software to edit our films on and we have also got a lot better at using and understanding the macs. I feel like we have learnt that the time needed to complete this task is significantly more than what we spent on the preliminary task. We have also learnt that we need the right camera to complete this task at a high standard. We know this because it took us a lot of attempts to finish filming the preliminary task because of the poor quality cameras we were using. So on our actual film, we got a high quality camera so we didn't have to film it more than once.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

The majority of the most significant and memorable thriller films such as Goodfellas and Seven all share the noticeable features that help determine the target audience.
Thriller films tend to be more heavily aimed at the male audience due to the violence and strong language. In our film we decided to use to male characters as our film will be dominantly targeting a male audience who will find it more relatable due to this decision. Our audience would require adults however would be suitable for the age group of  15+ because the age rating says that the film mostly contains violence and bad language, and also features mild nudity (depending on the story line of the film). The most common genre of the "15" category is either adult-based comedy or thriller.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?


We used specific features to attract/address our audience but we also used certain ideas such as noticeable features that help determine the target audience such as the choice of costume, selected characters and more. We made sure that the colour scheme for the film (black and white) instantaneously lets the audience know about the dark nature of the film and allows them to decide if the film is for them.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

At the beginning of our final product, the Marvel title credits are shown. Despite us adding this, we personally would not choose Marvel. Disney are well known for distributing many successful films such as Frozen and other franchises, and we feel this would not suit our product. Most of Disney’s successful films have extremely high budgets towards making the film and promoting it too, whereas our product had no budget, therefore they would be unlikely to take ours on. We feel that our product would be better suited off with an independent company such as Film 4. Film 4 are well known for promoting indie films that have really low budgets and aren't well known, therefore we feel that this would suit our film. Although Film 4’s movie is rarely successful at box office, we feel that our final product would do well with this company.

1. In What ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We challenge the mystery of the viewer by leaving a cliff hanger, as to whether or not the antagonist is in the protagonists head or not. We create this effect by the way that the antagonist repeatedly changes position without actually having to move. This creates the sense of “Paranoia”, our products title. We also build up tension by the lack of background sound/dialogue, and the use of suspenseful music. Towards the end of the product, the audience will hear a frequency building up as the antagonist is about to be revealed, however the product fades to black just before you see the antagonists face, and the frequency cuts out very sharply. This creates tension as well as suspense.

The way that the light in the movie progressively gets darker, shows that the situation as a whole is also getting darker. At first you just see the antagonists face, so it is hard to make a presumption about his character, whereas at the end he is seen as threatening and dangerous. Likewise, at the beginning of the product it is daytime, whereas towards the end it is in the evening. The use of this camerawork helps to give the audience an idea that the whole situation might be in the protagonists head.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our Media product represented different social group’s very subtlety. Our product only featured 2 different characters, but both of these contrasted very extremely. We found it rather difficult to fully represent the different social classes entirely, as our product didn’t feature any dialogue what so ever. However, we were able to represent the two different classes through the use of costume. Both characters costumes gave the audience a hint of what the characters’ lives/careers were like, for instance; our protagonist was dressed in a suit, which led the audience to believe that this man is just your ‘average Joe’, and if you saw him in person you would just expect him to be a higher class citizen, with a normal job and normal lifestyle. However, our antagonist was dressed in all black, which led the audience to presume that he has a dark personality and lives a low class lifestyle. We also see our protagonist holding a cell phone at the beginning, and as we also see him in a suit, we typically see him as an important business man.
